Letter from a friend

A Musician: Hey Gordon? I don’t know if you remember me but you recorded a couple tracks with my brother and I a few years back in San Antonio. We were called Hyperdrive Lightship –well anyway I just have been thinking about talking to you and how crazy it was like I’m still processing it and some of the stuff you said to us. I remember you asked us if we believed in magic, and I said yes and talked about my use of crystals but you didn’t go into detail almost like we weren’t ready! I’ve been thinking a lot about it lately and how I’ve come to see magic more deeply and wanted to see if you could elaborate on what you meant. I feel like I wasn’t ready and didn’t understand back then but I think I do now. Anything you could tell me about music and magic would be deeply meaningful to me at this point in my creative endeavors. I need guidance: I’ve meditated mushroomed and come up with nothing upon nothing.. sorry for the rant

Me : Of course I remember you, I had the greatest time discovering you and recording your music!
I guess the two main things I want to say in this quick message, because I’m doing some mixing right now – is one: I firmly believe in magic in the sense that whatever the intellect and science tells us is the origin and purpose of all life, is certainly incomplete the leaves out emotional wonderment and fantastic miracle that is actually going on with every breath that every living being takes.
This of course includes music and love, and joy and communication, and both expressing ourselves and appreciating expressions of other living beings

Point 2: I assure you I was not insinuating anything or holding back anything in my words to you those days. It was more like a friendly conversation among musical comrades. I wasn’t even trying to plant any seeds of wisdom, or anything like that- but I would have to say that if there was any upliftment, expansion or excitement going on that stuck with you, I would say that is the perfect example of the magic that I believe in.

Probably the most potent and important magical/musical/artistic path I can imagine or focus on these days– Would be to remain in as much communication contact with one’s own self so that we can hear the voice of our true innermost being.
Then the messages about what we want to do every moment, or every day or every year can become clearer AND THEN with our own focused will power, and our willpower’s connection to the willpower of the entire universe and all created/creator beings:: we may actually see progress towards our own goals. Magically and wonderfully those goals can change, either once we reach them or along the way to defining and attaining them. Good night from Berlin, best wishes from your friendly neighborhood music producer.
